Community mods, without a mirror
Checked 2026-11-05 · Lightyear Frontier 1.0
Community mods come from their authors; in-game Mod Chips are a separate equipment system. Start with the author’s Requirements and Description tabs on Nexus Mods, then use the installation method specified for that file.
UE4SS and packaged mods use different paths
The UE4SS project documents its loader in the game executable directory. Lightyear Frontier mod-author instructions identify that directory as Lightyear Frontier/FarMech/Binaries/Win64. This directory is not the top-level Steam game folder.
- Read the mod’s supported game build and required loader release before copying files.
- For a UE4SS mod, obtain the loader from the UE4SS project releases and follow the specific author’s loader instructions.
- Place the mod folder in the Mods location specified by that release; preserve its Scripts folder hierarchy and enable its entry in mods.txt when required.
- For a packaged-content mod, follow the author’s Paks instructions instead of dropping it into the UE4SS Scripts directory.
When an older install guide disagrees
Published Lightyear Frontier instructions show both a Win64/Mods layout and a Win64/ue4ss/Mods layout. These are version-specific instructions, so neither is a universal substitute for the other. The loader documentation and a particular author’s instructions provide different parts of the install process.
Version 1.0 changes progression, automation, and equipment. A mod dated before that release is evidence of an older file, not evidence of current compatibility. For a conflict, compare the files each mod replaces and the author’s compatibility section; copying two replacements for the same asset is not a documented merging method. A merger tool needs its own explicit compatibility instructions.

Questions
Do all community mods need UE4SS?
No universal loader requirement is established here. Use the requirement on the particular author’s file page; packaged mods have different instructions.
Where is the executable directory?
The cited game-specific instructions name Lightyear Frontier/FarMech/Binaries/Win64.
Why do Mods paths differ between guides?
The published guides use different loader layouts. Preserve the layout required by the loader release and mod instructions you are following.
