Automation Update, 5 March 2026

Checked 2026-11-05 · Lightyear Frontier 1.0

This update shipped on 5 March 2026. The wiki records it as version 0.8, the last large build before 1.0. Read it as an archive. The live rule is Automation Pipes, explained on the migration page.

What it added: an Automator you filled, then linked with a connector pipe to a crafting building, then toggled with H or the right stick. Splitters, mergers, and inputs and outputs on many constructs came with it. Energy arrived via the combustion generator at Milestone 5 and the solar generator at Milestone 12. Energy was global, Energized speed was about 2.5 times, and drone stations stopped burning fuel. An automated water pump and a reservoir replaced a lot of hose work. The mech no longer needed fuel to move. Fuel instead enabled mod chips, tool speed, and thruster boost. An exofarmer jetpack shipped too. The studio described performance gains around 50 to 65 percent, and up to 90 percent in some scenes. The first Automator was Milestone 9. More automation constructs waited until Milestone 12.

1.0 moves the start of automation to Milestone 4 and deletes the Automator step. If you only needed the history of why old videos look different, you are in the right place. If you need to wire a 1.0 save, leave for the pipes guide.

The wiki labels this 5 March 2026 update as v0.8.

Should I still build an Automator?

No. 1.0 replaced it. This page is the archive.

What did Energy change?

Generators feed a global pool. Enough Energy speeds constructs. The mech can move without fuel.
