Shifting Gears, 4 June 2025

Checked 2026-11-05 · Lightyear Frontier 1.0

Shifting Gears went live on 4 June 2025. The announcement title does not include a version number, so 6 or 0.7. Treat the page as history. 1.0 changed fuel, mech parts, and automation after this, and those changes win when they conflict.

The post rebuilt the world and added modular building with an integrity system. Core progress moved to a delivery cannon for crops, and construct costs were recalculated. Exofarmer tools arrived: the H.O.E., watering can, seed bag, and repair tool. Crop types and mound types showed up together, with the explicit hope that you would rotate. A watering drone station automated watering. Mechs and exofarmers gained health, with a damage scale in settings.

Fuel became required to operate the mech, and that rate could be scaled. The Automation Update later removed the need for fuel just to move, so do not apply this paragraph to a 1.0 save. Home area, loadouts, queue max, quick deposit, an auto-hiding HUD, and day length also arrived here. New minerals, snow and gravel, more artifacts, and a split between respawning nodes and one-time nodes round out the list I will defend from this single post.

For returning players, the important distinction is between this rebuilt progression and the Legacy branch. Later updates build on the changed world and delivery systems. The legacy-versus-1.0 page explains how the official FAQ describes that separate branch.

Questions

What version number is Shifting Gears?

The announcement does not give one. I am not inventing it.

Does the mech still need fuel to move?

That rule was this update's. The Automation Update later let the mech move on an empty tank.

Why read a 2025 update?

Soils, integrity, drones, and the home area still sit under 1.0, even where later patches edited them.
